Plimoth Plantation
On Saturday, October 11, we visited Plimoth Plantation. The day was 70 degrees and sunny. The ocean was beautiful and the day was so clear. We could see boats sailing and a lighthouse in the distance.
The guard house was exciting for all the boys. The cannons were so cool. Andrew is getting a great view of the town and the ocean.
We loved the gardens behind each house. I especially loved the display of herbs used for different purposes.

This interpreter was cooling grits made from indian corn so that she and a neighbor could make bread.

This guide is splitting boards to make siding. He was so entertaining. The boys asked questions for a long time.

They were threshing peas in a barn. Each of the bigger boys got to practice swinging the flail.

We liked the chickens running through the town.

Sammy and Andrew were so good during a very long day. They were such happy boys.

This guide spent a lot of time talking about their crops. When he discovered Matthew was related to some people in the town (Priscilla Mullins and John Alden), he accused Matthew of claiming to be a relative so they'd have to take him in.

This woman is braiding indian corn.

The children loved talking to the guides in the crafts center.

All the boys enjoyed seeing this early colonial lathe. They appreciated the electric one in Pop's basement.

Jacob is grinding corn in the Wampanoag homesite.

We had breakfast at 7:30 in the morning. We brought a few snacks and planned to eat lunch at about 2:00. We got carried away and wound up at dinner at 6:00. We had a delicious, but very slow meal at the Weathervane. Our dinner wasn't served until 6:45. Seven very starving children were extremely well behaved while they waited. We all enjoyed calamari, shrimp, and crab.
